Why Is My Laptop So Slow With Games?

Submitted by admin on October 21, 2009 – 3:03 am13 Comments

I got a pretty much brand new acer laptop and i just got The Sims 2 Deluxe today, and it took 1/2 hour to install and i pretty much can’t even play the game cause its so slow with loading and stuff. I barely have anything on my laptop so i don’t think thats a problem. WHY IS IT SO SLOW, and is there a way to make it faster without buying something, just is there something to do with my laptop to make it faster? Or if you could just answer why its so slow.

You needs lots of memory for games how much do you have?
Where did you get the game, did you buy it or get a pirated copy because if pirated you could have down loaded a virus that is slowing your computer to a halt.

The long time to install seems normal. And if it loads slowly that makes sense too since it has to do a lot of work initially to move from the hard drive and into RAM.
What is critical is gameplay. If your gameplay is slow, I’d check my video card/adapter. Laptops have onboard video which aren’t nearly as powerful as even middle of the road desktop graphics adapters. A good graphics card has its own cpu and ram. Basically a good card is a computer inside the computer.
The laptop graphics adapter probably has no processor, and its likely to be using the system ram instead of its own memory.
The bottom line is that most laptops aren’t well suited for games, though some are made that can handle the graphics load of a game.
Check your game’s minimum graphics requirement against your laptops video specifications.
If you wanted to try something relatively inexpensive to speed up performance, I’d say increase your ram.

It is either because you are using too many programs at the time you are playing the game, you have too small RAM for the game, look at the system requirements for the game, or that you’re game card is too small or outdated, look at the system requirements for that too.

your video memory is probably small so you are going to have to buy a bigger size

This could be caused by a number of things,
    - your computer may have picked up a virus from the Internet
-your computer may not fit the requirements of the video game, in which does not just include the space on your hard drive, it could also mean the actual operating system on the computer. There are some games that mostly operate on Windows and some that will not operate on apple / Macintosh.
-there is software available to download to speed your computer up. If you search on http://www.yahoo.com, I’m sure you’ll find something.
-you could also try Defragmenting some of the files on your computer this will compress the files making them smaller and creating more space. Just go into my computer, right click on the hard drive, select properties, select the tools tab at the top and then click the Defragment Now button. But I will warn you this will take a long time to complete. Your best to do it when you’ve got a few hours to spare. But it will speed up your computer.
    Hope this helps

Most cant even get Sims 2 on their laptops! Add more ram or quit trying to play big games on a laptop.

  • s j says:

    Max out the ram.

  • james h says:

maybe its slow because maybe the sims 2 requires a better graphics card.

  • Nathan K says:

    i dont care

  • Sarah the Great says:

There’s not enough memory in ya computer whether it’s new or not

  • soloxine says:

OK…. Laptops in general are not good for playing high mem games such as sims 2; laptops do not have the processing ability or memory for that type of gameplay for sims 2 you should have atlease 2 gigs of ram and 2.0 ghz processor for those games and sadly unless your willing to pay the big bucks for a laptop you cannot get it to that performance.

  • jthc5269 says:

i recommend you increase the video memory to 512mb
